2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

2014 ford fiesta review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Outstanding subcompact hatch and sedan get new look. introductionfor 2014, ford fiesta gets a freshened look, along with two new thrifty engines, upgraded in-car technology and a revised interior.  boasting the title of best-selling subcompact across the globe, the ford fiesta is a fierce competitor in the small car market. Available in both hatchback and sedan versions, the two body styles make distinctly different statements.  a new wide, horizontal front grille is the most noticeable change on the 2014 ford fiesta, bearing a strong resemblance to the latest-generation fusion sedan. Headlamps and taillamps are new, too, and the refreshed styling helps to make the fiesta 5 percent more aerodynamic than before, which helps with fuel economy. Fuel economy is an epa-estimated 27/38 mpg city/highway with the standard 5-speed manual transmission, or 29/39 mpg with the 6-speed automatic. This engine carries over from the 2013 model.  however, two new engines make their debut on the 2014 ford fiesta: on the efficient end of the spectrum, ford's 1. 0-liter three-cylinder engine will be available late in the model year with 123 horsepower and fuel economy projected to be a class-leading 30/40 mpg city/highway. Unlike a traditional automatic transmission, this gearbox is actually an automated manual that uses two dry clutches. The result is faster shift times and improved fuel economy. It's the best of both worlds for people who are enthusiastic about driving, but for whom stop-and-go traffic kills the notion of a traditional stick shift. With this option, there's no clutch pedal to continuously pump, yet drivers can choose to change gears manually for a sportier, authentic shift feel.  inside, the 2014 fiesta gets updated with a new instrument panel ford designers say was inspired by the look of a mobile phone. Seats are comfortable and have enough bolstering to offer support, without affecting passengers' ability to get in and out. Quality of interior materials is par with other cars in its class. Top-of-the-line titanium models get standard features one would normally expect to find on bigger, fancier cars, including leather upholstery and the myfordtouch interface with 6. 5-inch touchscreen with hd radio and sirius satellite radio capability. Roomy enough for a six-foot driver, fiesta provides slightly less headroom but slightly more legroom than the nissan versa note, making it a good choice for the long-legged.  we found the fiesta feels right at home driving around town and while running weekend errands. The base engine's 120 horsepower isn't mind-blowing, but it's enough to tackle the daily commute in stride. Ride quality is smooth. Wind and road noise is decently muted, but did hear noise from the tires when traveling at moderate and higher speeds. However, the fiesta isn't as roomy as some, even in the hatch body style. Those considering the sedan might also want to look at the chevrolet sonic, hyundai accent or nissan versa. Fans of the hatchback should also consider the honda fit or the all-new nissan versa note hatch, especially if cargo space is a concern. lineupford fiesta seats five and is available as a sedan or a hatchback. A 1. 0-liter three-cylinder engine will be available in late 2013.  fiesta s sedan 14,000) and hatch 14,600) come with cloth upholstery, manually operated air conditioning, manually operated windows, power door locks, power sideview mirrors, message center with lcd screen, a six-speaker audio system with cd player and auxiliary audio jack, the ford sync voice recognition system, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, hill start assist, and 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Hatches also get a rear windshield wiper.  fiesta se sedan 15,450) and hatch 16,050) get upgraded cloth upholstery, power windows, remote keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, a trip computer, a different center console, multi-colored ambient lighting, power sideview mirrors with turn signal indicators, an alarm system and painted 15-inch aluminum wheels. A 6-speed manual is the only transmission choice. The upper and lower grilles have swapped proportions. Now, a large, big-mouthed upper grille grabs the most attention, with the same horizontal lines seen on the ford fusion sedan. The lower grille is low and long, and flows nicely into reshaped foglamp housings. Headlamps are new too, but retain the upswept back corner found on the outgoing model. Deep hood lines give the fiesta a more athletic look. The net result is a bolder fiesta with more european flair, although in this variation it doesn't pull off the aston martin-esque air that the fusion carries. Fiesta st replaces the grille insert with black mesh.  lines on either side of the large upper grille flow around the front quarter panel and into wide, flared front fender arches. Viewed from the side, both sedan and hatchback versions of the 2014 ford fiesta are mostly unchanged. They keep the deep, slightly rising character line that runs through the front and rear door handles. Hatchbacks keep the same silhouette: a slightly arcing roofline accented by the little turned-up tail of the rear deck lid spoiler. Changes to the hatch are tougher to spot. interiorupgraded materials make their way into the 2014 ford fiesta's redesigned cabin. A mix of this material and harder plastic is also found on the side doors.  controls inside the 2014 ford fiesta fan out in a winged v shape. Instead of toggling through audio functions, there is a separate button for each (cd, radio, etc.). Below the audio controls are the climate control functions, laid out in a large central circle, flanked by round temp and fan speed knobs.  the display screen on the fiesta se is set back deep into the instrument panel, which shields it from glare. We found it easily readable in bright sunlight. The voice-activated sync system comes standard on all models and allows users to control the audio system and pair. 2013 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomy suv with contemporary technology. introductionthe ford explorer is one the best seven-passenger sport-utility vehicles available. It delivers the function and family friendly features of a minivan with the rugged appeal of an suv.  new for 2013 is an explorer sport trim with a twin-turbocharged version of ford's 3. 5-liter v6 engine, a sport-tuned suspension and all-wheel-drive. Using premium gas, explorer sport makes up to 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.  new options on 2013 explorer limited models include a lane departure warning system, heated steering wheel and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column. All 2013 explorer models come standard with a front-passenger knee airbag.  this latest generation of the ford explorer, introduced for 2011, features a one-piece, unibody design rather than a ladder-type truck frame with a separate, bolted on body. The result is more car-like driving dynamics, as well as significant weight savings, which translates to better fuel economy.  powering all 2013 ford explorer models except the sport is 3. 5-liter v6 that makes 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also includes hill start assist and hill descent control.  fuel economy with the base v6 engine on front-wheel-drive explorer models is an epa-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, or 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models.  even with regular all-season tires, the explorer will blast through sand or traverse deep ditches and steep hills, no problem. It has more power than the standard v6 in the previous-generation explorer, with 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and delivers an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  the 2. 0 ecoboost is sufficiently powerful, and acceptable if mileage is the absolute priority. We prefer the standard 290-horspower v6 with its smooth, strong acceleration.  explorer's chassis is super rigid, which not only makes for great crash-test scores, but also a quiet cabin, excellent ride quality and solid handling that belies the explorer's considerable size.  inside, there is plenty of legroom in the second row, real space for passengers in the third, and up to 80. 7 cubic-feet of cargo space. It can be reconfigured in seconds, with split rear seats that fold with a button on each side and bounce back up with the pull of a lever. The interior is smartly styled and well finished. The materials and build quality are quite good.  the base explorer comes well equipped. The upgraded limited trim is leather-upholstered, with heated-seats and offered with premium audio, navigation and rear-seat dvd entertainment. The myfordtouch interface is optional, but can be cumbersome and at least a little annoying.  other suvs to consider in this class include the buick enclave, chevrolet traverse, dodge durango, gmc acadia, honda pilot or mazda cx-9. Fuel economy is an epa-estimated17/24 mpg city/highway and 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models. Of torque with an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  explorer 29,100) comes standard with fabric upholstery, air conditioning, a six-way power driver seat with manual recline, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, power windows, locks and outside mirrors, a trip computer, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats, 50/50 split third-row seats, a six-speaker audio system with single cd player and auxiliary audio jack, rear privacy glass, roof rails and 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Options include a tow package 570) and a sync with myford pakage 295), which adds voice activation, bluetooth and siriussx satellite radio capability with a six-month subscription.  explorer xlt 32,680) adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ford's sync voice activation with satellite radio capability, a usb audio port, a keyless entry touchpad on the driver's door, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloy wheels.  explorer limited 38,100) gets leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker sony audio system with hd radio, power adjustable pedals with memory, a cargo net, a rearview camera, remote start, a 110-volt outlet, 20-inch painted aluminum wheels, and the myfordtouch touchscreen interface. Of torque (using premium fuel). Epa fuel economy estimates are 16/22 mpg city/highway. Standard features include sport front seats with fabric upholstery, unique interior and exterior trim, and many of the standard features found on the limited model.  safety features include ford's curve control, which monitors vehicle speed going into a corner and applies braking to individual wheels as needed, as well as mykey, which allows owners to set limits for vehicle speed and stereo volume. Other standard safety features include front side airbags, side curtain airbags, a front passenger knee airbag, stability control, traction control and trailer sway control.  optional safety features include a blind spot warning system with cross-traffic alert on explorer xlt models and above. Limited and sport models also get an available lane-departure warning and keeping system, as well as forward collision warning. walkaroundthe ford explorer is rugged but refined, familiar but fresh. It's a foot longer than the ford edge crossover, a few inches shorter than the dodge durango suv and about eight inches shorter than the chevy traverse. The amber indicators sweep back like narrow wings atop tidy main projector beams. The plastic grille is gray on the base explorer, body-colored on the xlt and satin-chrome on the limited. The hood looks short from the side, but long when looking straight down it. It's got two parallel humps and a scoop in the center. Rear taillights are led, and also look good.  the window outline is clean, bold and symmetrical, with blackened a-, b-, and d-pillars, and body-colored c-pillars that slant down and back and impart forward motion to the vehicle. The fender flares are inspired by the mustang and body sides follow the lines of the taurus. The three-bar grille strikes resemble those of the range rover, which was once-upon-a-time a member of the ford family.  wheels are 17-inch steel with plastic covers on the base explorer, 10-spoke 18-inch painted aluminum on the xlt, and 20-inch painted aluminum with spokes like flower petals on the limited. The optional 20-inch polished aluminum wheels have spokes like shriveling flower petals or crab pincers, and don't do justice to the car. interiorfit and finish inside the explorer is excellent, and we particularly like the limited's leather seats.  the front seats sit up high, which is good because the hood looks long from the driver's seat. The slanted center stack has a clean design and uses stylish satin-finish trim materials. The doors have metal speaker grilles, and curve into the dash panel. There's a big glovebox with a shelf, leather grab handles and armrests on explorers with leather interior, and long door pockets with space for a bottle.  one reason we like the base model is its conventional gauges, relatively simple 4. 2-inch lcd screen at the top of the center stack, and familiar mechanical knobs below. The base explorer doesn't come with the myfordtouch driver connect technology, and neither does the xlt, unless it's chosen as an option.  cars equipped with myfordtouch have two driver-configurable lcd screens in front of the driver on either side a big speedometer, and an 8-inch color touch screen at the top of the center stack.
